Bodrum Add On Cruise Package

2 NIGHTS BODRUM ADD ON

Day 1, ISTANBUL/ BODRUM

Meet your guide and transfer to the airport for your morning flight to Bodrum with Turkish Airlines. Arriving in Bodrum, you will begin your full-day of sightseeing.

The
Bodrum Castle occupies the tip of the wedge-like peninsula at the center of Bodrum. It is a splendid incarnation of medieval western military architecture, built at a time when the European Middle Ages were over, and castles of this type were fast becoming objects of nostalgia. It has a massive conglomeration of courtyards, turrets, galleries and sunken gardens.

Next, you will see the collections of the
Museum of Underwater Archaeology, located inside the Castle. The museum, the most important of its kind in the world, contains treasures from a series of historic wrecks discovered along Turkey's southern shores. Mycenaean and Canaanite artifacts recovered from 12th Century BC wreck, found off Cape Gelidonya (Antalya) in 1960, formed the original core of the museum. On display in the castle's Gothic Chapel is a full-scale reconstruction of one third of an Eastern Roman wreck from the 7th century AD. You will also see the finds from the world's oldest known shipwreck, a 14th century BC vessel excavated off Uluburun (Kas).

In the castle, you will also visit the
Glasswreck Hall. During the summers of 1977 through 1979, the Institute of Nautical Archaeology (INA) and the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology excavated a medieval shipwreck at Serce Limani, a natural harbor on the southern Turkish Coast. The ship had set sail in approximately 1025 AD from the southern part of the Syrian coast, then ruled by the Fatimid caliphs. It was carrying a variety of cargoes, including 3 tons of glass cullet in the form of raw glass and broken glassware.

In another section, is the
Carian Princess exhibit which evokes the last days of ancient Halicarnassus, it was the capital city of Caria and is the site on which present day Bodrum stands. This exhibit is a reminder of the Hecatomnid dynasty that ruled Caria from 392 BC until the city fell to the Macedonian armies of Alexander the Great, a disaster from which it never recovered. You will view an amazing collection of gold jewelry.

Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.

After your lunch, you will visit the
Mausoleum which is Bodrum's oldest antiquity and was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The monument was built by Artemisia II in honor of her husband King Mausolos, this is the origin of the general word for large tomb. The entire structure once stood at over 50 meters in height. The first reliefs from the Mausoleum reached the British Museum in London in 1846.

By mid afternoon arrive to your hotel and relax. Perhaps try a spa treatment or enjoy cocktails by the pool. Dinner recommended at Tuti Restaurant at your hotel.

Overnight at the Marmara Bodrum Hotel or Barbaros Bay Kempinski Hotel. (L)

Day 2, BODRUM
After your breakfast, you will meet your guide at the hotel lobby for your private full-day gulet sailing. You will transfer to the pier to embark on a private adventurous sailing experience in a gulet, a typical wooden sailing boat from the region. You will enjoy crystal clear water and swimming in secret coves. A sumptuous lunch will be served on-board your gulet, accompanied by local wines and cold beverages.
